A surprise for Cale!

I can't begin to write about our day, before I say thank you. I love so much that I have somewhere that I can spill everything buzzing through my head, all the emotions running through me, and share about the tears that fall across my cheeks. Not only do I get it all out, but in return, I feel the power of prayer! I had asked on my Facebook yesterday afternoon for everyone to pray for us, then wrote my post last night. I felt so encouraged this morning! Thank you! I always feel like "thank you" is so small compared to how grateful my heart is for everyone that reads this blog, and continues to lift us up. I'm so incredibly thankful! I feel so blessed everyday!!

Just a little while after being at the hospital, I realized that today might be just as hard as yesterday. Cale was already hanging out in the dumps, and it didn't seem like he was going to be pulled out of it. Before I let myself drift into discouragement, I decided to remind myself (and Cale), that this is the day that the Lord has made and we're going to rejoice in it! God is faithful.

It wasn't a super happy or easy going kind of day, but it was better than yesterday! I'm thankful for that! I know Cale is too. There were a couple rough patches, but he's doing really great everyday. I just wish he could see it!

We had Neuro Psych first. Dr. Howe did more questions with Cale and he got an 80 today! For the most part, I think everyone is in agreement that he's out of PTA, but it's just not by the books yet. The part with him being out of PTA, is such a big deal and starts a whole new story line to our journey. It's gonna be rocky ground though...Dr. Howe explained to me after she met with Cale, that for me, I've had almost a year to process everything, and to realize how it's changed our lives. Cale is just starting all of this. She said "It slapped him in the face." He is suddenly realizing that nothing is the same. In fact, when she first came in this morning, and started talking with Cale, she asked him what had changed with him since she had seen him last, Cale said "everything."

One of the blessings today was that Cale ate what was on both trays! For lunch, it was hamburgers (Yes!) and then dinner was stuffed shells. At first it didn't seem like he was going to eat it, but he did! Woohoo! We took a walk to the main hospital and went to the little store it has. We have some Bingo bucks, so we picked out some things that are simple that he will hopefully like when the time comes that he doesn't like his tray. We bought a couple lunchables, cup of noodles, and a Velveeta cup thing. We got a few more snakier things too...just in case ;)

Tonight I was helping Cale get ready for bed. He has been doing really good with sequencing, but sometimes he still gets stuck, especially when he's tired! He looked at me and said "Thank you for helping me. It means a lot." What?! Oh dear. It's been a tearful week...!

Please be praying for Cale and all that he's up against right now. I know it must be so hard. I also know, that He belongs to the Lord and the Lord gives strength like nothing or no one else can offer! Yeh!

“Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Mark 11:23

For almost a year, we've been praying for miracles. We've been praying for Cale's recovery, and praying for healing. There are people all over the world that have been rooting for Cale on his side, wishing the best for him. I know that because I've seen it everyday, but like Dr. Howe said, Cale is just now entering into this journey, where he's aware of it. I believe that God is doing a mighty work in him. I believe that healing is happening everyday, and I know that God hears every prayer for my beloved.

Will you help me show Cale that he has so many prayer warriors on his side? If you pray for Cale, read this blog, and are rooting for him, will you leave a comment to him? I will wait until the 12th to show him all the comments because I know there are a lot of people that only read every now and then. This will mean so much to him! Thank you in advance! :)

    Hi Cale,
I've never met you either. I have been here for almost a year now reading up on your recovery. Looking back to that night so long ago when they didn't have much hope, we have all witnessed a miracle in you and through you. Every day when I read I am in awe by your progress. I have shed many tears for you and Kathleen because I know that this journey that you are both on has to be very trying. You have shown many people that you are a strong person, never giving up when others might have. I have seen your fight Cale and you have truly amazed me. Way to go CALE...You too Kathleen...You both are truly remarkable...I pray for peace and happiness for both of you this New Year...You have both come a long way on this journey...God Bless you both.

  4. Cale,
We are so proud of how far you've come. So many miracles already. We now pray that you will be faithful and strong as God continues to unwrap new miracles for you. I know that things are hard. Especially now that you are remembering things. But WOW! What a miracle that you are even remembering things! New blessings await. And Kathleen will be with you every step of the way. What a huge blessing that is. Cheerful thoughts to you.

  7. Hi Cale! I have only met you once--the short time you were home in the Tri-Cities before you and Kathleen headed back east, so I don't expect you to remember me. :) My husband and I read your blog every day and we keep our two children updated on how you're doing. We pray as a family every night and you and Kathleen have been in our prayers constantly. We are praying for healing and renewed strength and for mighty, wonderful things to happen in your life. You are a testament to God's power! And He isn't finished yet!! Love, Ryan, Bonnie, Grace and Isaac Bennett.

2 Corinthians 12:8-10 "Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."

    Hi Cale!

I haven't met you, and I've only met Kathleen once. But, I can tell you that you both have made a significant impact on my life. I read every post that Kathleen makes, and multiple times I have been reduced to tears, praying through sobs for your recovery. It makes me so happy to hear how well you are doing! And, really in a relatively short time!! God is amazing, and he loves you both so much. It's apparent with every word I read. I'm proud of both of you!! You just have to keep trucking through and know that these things take time. I can't imagine the frustration that you're feeling or the sadness. But, God is with you and you'll get through this.

I want to share my favorite verse with you: 2 Corinthians 5:17
--"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"

If you think about it, it's almost as though you are a new creation. You have to relearn things, and things have changed so much: the old has gone. But, as Paul says, the new has come! And, that's exciting! Why else would there be an exclamation point at the end of it? :) God knows it's hard, but he is going to be with you through the end. And even beyond.

I hope what I say helps some, and I will continue praying for both of you. Keep on keeping on!

    Caitlin

  9. Dear Cale,
I don't know you well, but remember you from the church in Watertown when you were stationed at Drum. Sometimes our lives get turned upside down on us, and nothing makes sense, but G-d has a plan, it is better for us than any plan we could ever think of. It might be hard, but in the end, we will be in heaven with Him.
I am a nurse, and I am also in California after my life got turned upside down. I didn't have an accident, but my life was a wreck. I know what it is like to just want everything to go back to the way it was before, and I get tired of trying when things are hard. You have touched my life, and encouraged me to keep going.
I read Kathleen's blog almost every day to see how much progress you have made. I am always amazed. You are doing better than I ever thought possible. I pray for you and Kathleen every day. You are so strong, and you are a wonderful husband to Kathleen. I sometimes tell my patients about you when they think that something is too hard, or when there is nothing left for us to do but pray. That you are alive and talking and walking is a miracle.
Thank you for being an encouragement to me!

  11. I'm here blond boy.Here's a little something.
    I was walking down life's highway,a long,long time ago.
One day I saw a sign that "Heaven's Grocery Store"
As I god a little closer, that door came open wide
And when I came to myself,I was standing right inside.
I saw a host of angels they were standing everywhere one handed me a basket and said,"My child,go shop with care"
everything a Christian needed was in that grocery store and all you couldn't carry,
you could come back for more.
First I got some patience, and love was in that row.Farther down was Understanding, needed everywhere you go.I got a box of Wisdom,a bag or two of faith and I didn't miss the Holy Ghost it was everyplace.I got some strength and Courage, to help me run the race.
My basket was getting full, but still I added Grace.I didn't forget Salvation, and found that it was free so I tried to get enough of that to save both you and me.Then I started to the counter, to pay my grocery bill for I thought that I had everything to do my Master's will.
On the way I saw some prayer, and had to put lot's in I knew that once I stepped outside, that I'd run into Sin.
Power and joy were plentiful, sitting on their shelf Songs and praises were hanging near,so I helped myself.
Then I said to the Angel,"Now,how much do I owe?" He just smiled and said,'Take them everywhere you go.'I looked at him and asked again, 'But what's the price I owe?
He told me Jesus paid my bill,a long, long time ago.Darrel Dawson GOD BLESS YOU CALE.

  13. Dear Cale,

Each and every morning I "check in" on you and Kathleen to hear and see how things are going.

I met Kathleen (and Basil) while you all were in Cary and was so amazed by her strength and faith.

My boys often peer over my shoulder and are amazed (as am I) at the great gains you have made since you left us here in North Carolina.

Cale you are strong and mighty! Keep working hard! You are doing great!!

Hold on to the truths and promises in Deuteronomy 31:6, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

God will get you where you cannot go on your own.

Blessings and hugs to you both,

You won't remember me because I met you soon after your accident while you were at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. One of your ministers contacted our church. My husband Brent and I went to the hospital to see how we could help. I fell in love with you and your family. Since I work at the hospital, I would stop by often to make sure that you and Kathleen had everything that you needed. I must say, I fell in love with your wife. She is an amazing person and your biggest fan!!!

Each morning I now check in on you by looking at your blog. I say a prayer for you and Kathleen every single day! You have come so far since your accident! The last time I saw you, you could not walk, talk, or open your eyes. You had a tube to help you breathe. Cale, you dont realize how much God has blessed you. The doctors here said that you would never be able to do all of the things that you can now do! You are a miracle! You should be so happy! You should be so proud! Cale, you are a fighter! The reason that you are able to do all of the things that you can do is because of your hard work and God's blessings. When the times get rough, remember that God has a plan for you and Kathleen. Don't get discouraged. Continue to fight! We are continuing to pray for you in Greenville, North Carolina.

  25. Cale, As a member of Salem Baptist, I have been daily following your progress since soon after your acccident. I know that none of this has been easy for your or Kathleen. However, it has been a blessing to watch God answer prayers,to witness Kathleen's faith, and to see his healing hand. I know this is not what you planned for your life or where you want to be. But God is using you and receiving glory which is His purpose in creating us. May you continue to look to God depending on Him for strength for each new day and trusting in His heart when you can't see His hand.

    My darling Cale,
In Joshua it says " don't be afraid or discouraged because I am with you always". Well not only is the Lord your God with you always but so is that beautiful wife of yours but friends and family around the world who love you and pray for you more than you know. Some of us you have met and some you have not. ( you have met us.) But you continue to inspire us and encourage us with your warrior spirit and give all of us the hope that we have a fighting chance. So show them doctors and those who doubt that "gun show" and get er done and remember we love you and we are out here praying for you always....

  32. Hi, You don't know me but I have been following your blog for sometimes. I'm not real sure how I came upon it. I am a BIG fan of the military and go around adopting soldiers...LOL. I also have a chronically ill child. Even though our issues are not the same, we still have some of the same "bad" days...lack of progress, lack of diagnosis, etc. You have been such an inspiration to me. When I saw your "surprise" for Cale, just had to write and let you know we are here cheering both of you on in your journey and I suspect there is a whole "cloud of witnesses" cheering him on as well. Keep the Faith, Cale (and Kathleen) someday you will reach your goal. Remember this: "God's clock keeps perfect time. His train is never late." While we are looking at the "dark" side, the "weaver" is seeing the finished product, a beautiful tapestry of Grace being woven for a testimony to how great of God really is!

  34. Cale,

I have not met you or your awesome wife but my life has been richly blessed by seeing the miracles God has poured apon both your lives.
I can see Gods hand in your life even before the accident. He placed you to together for such a time as this! He has been faithful beyond measure, It shows how precious you both are to him.
Struggles like this either make or break relationships, breaking didn't even cross your wife's mind. She loves you so much and wants to serve you and is so excited for each day to see your progress. That Cale cannot even compare to how God Loves you! He is always preparing us for more of life's journeys. Together you both will do amazing and great things through Christ who strengthens you! You are a walking, talking, breathing and now running testimony of Gods healing hand. Life may be different than before, but I have found different made my life better and more worth living.
I had to figure out how to live again but in a different way than you, I lost my baby son when a drink driver hit our car at 95 miles per hour.
I would have given anything to not have to go through that experience, my life was changed in the blink of an eye. God was so faithful, and I am a better person, stronger in my faith, compassionate, honest in who I am, secure in my eternity. It was a long road, but I am so thankful that God never gave up! He won't give up on you either Cale, remember that when times get rough, you have God and Kathleen on your side and a whole lot of prayers!

Thank you for sharing this Journey I know God is going to do great things through both of you....he already has.

  39. Hi Cale,

Like so many others, you do not know me, but I have been following your story since about the time my own husband was injured with a brain injury in July 2010. He crashed on his horse while participating in a rodeo and like you had a severe injury to his head and brain. He was in a coma for weeks and even when he started to kind of wake up he wouldn't remember much. Like you, we have had several thousand people pray for him and like you, the Lord IS healing him. This is what I want you to know. Just like my husband Graham, you are on the most difficult road you will find yourself on and many will not understand all that you have gone through. What you are going through and dealing with, my own husband is either going through it too or has gone through it. The feelings of "everything is different now", "I'm not the same"..."what's going on?" "Lord why did you do this to me?" are all questions that Graham has had to deal with among many others. The sadness, the confusion, the just not feeling the same anymore are all very real! Please understand that the only one who will ever truly know what you are going through is your Savior but He is there always for you to grasp and cling to. You have an amazing wife who loves you very much, but even she will not get all of what you are going through.

If you EVER need someone to talk to who has maybe been in your shoes, please don't ever hesitate to let my husband know. We would love to meet you and Kathleen someday, and will continue to pray for you each day. You ARE doing so well, don't let anyone tell you differently and just try to hold onto your faith and love for Jesus....He WILL see the two of you through this. Much love and prayers.

    Most Sincerely, Randi Stump

  40. OK Cale, I can only imagine what you will see on the 12th when Kathleen brings this list to you....It's long already and it's only the first day:) We know you are going to finish this race well. We know you have the fortitude to keep at it and not give up. And we know that Jesus is right there by your side all the way. There are so many people that are watching your life and rooting for you and holding you up before the throne of grace. I pray right now that you enter into that throne room every day, espcially on those days that seem a bit tough and you can't seem to see the sun shining. We are all here for you and pulling for you every day. Keep on, keeping on. I hope you can print out these responsed and keep them close by so you can read them whenever you need a bit of perking up.

Love you guy! Keep up the good work!!!

All I can say is... "WOW". What an amazing story the two of you have and in the future be able to look back and talk about together. I have never met either of you, though wonder if perhaps I ever met you in passing when you lived in the Tri-Cities at CBC?

Kathleen- You are one amazing woman and almost every time I read your blog I am brought to tears as you show your love and faithfulness to our God and your husband. I often think about your situation and cant help but imagine it was my husband and I in you and Cale's shoes. Your devotion to your husband is so admirable, there are many people who could learn from you! It is obvious that God has great plans in your life!

Cale- I was heart broken when I first read the story in the newspaper about your accident. First, I would like to thank you for your service to our country and willing to make so many sacrifices to do so. You are a very brave and determined man and am so thankful for your willingness to fight each and every day to live and improve. Last year when I read posts I never imagined you would be where you are today. Keep fighting! God will give you just enough strength you need for each and every day.

You two are incredible and God is shining through all that you do!

  45. Dear Cale,
Tony and I have been praying for you for many months now and you have improved so much and are still improving every day. You may not realize it but we on the outside looking in can see it and are so thankful to God and all his mercies he has bestowed on you. You are now just beginning your journey back to full recovery and trust me, you are doing so well. With God, we have to be patient and listen to His voice and give thanks to him daily. He is in control and has done such wondrous miracles for you and Kathleen already. Stay strong and keep the faith and one day you will come out of this fog that you have been in. You will get frustrated on your road back to normal but hang in there; you are coming back to all of us. We will always be here for you to encourage you and pray for you.

Your wife is one of the sweetest people in the world but you know that already. She has stayed close to the Lord and He has honored her for this by his miracles. Yes you are a miracle and you and Kathleen have a mission in life. The mission is to share your story and love with everyone you meet and to show them that yes, our Lord is still alive and watching over His people. Those that know him will know his voice and will listen.
Much love to you and Kathleen from us

  46. Dear Cale,
I want you to know that I pray every night for your complete recovery, before I fall asleep. I also pray for Kathleen's strenght.

Cale, I also have TBI. You can recover from this injury. You may not be able to accomplish tasks the way you used to before your injury, but you can relearn how to do them.
It is hard work. Sometimes I felt mad/ashamed that I could not do something I use to be able to do. I turned that "mad" feeling into determination! I kept trying until I could do my tasks! It may take me longer, and sometimes I forget things, but I have gotten ALOT better and so will you!
Do not get mad at yourself! Just keep trying, keep practicing! You WILL GET BETTER!

    All my LOVE,
    Lorri C.

  47. Dear Cale and Kathleen,

I have never met either of you but my son is stationed at Ft Drum and has attended your church a couple of times. His wife was the one who told me about the accident. I live in just an hour away from both of the hospitals you were in while here in NC. My mom and I read the blog daily. Kathleen, you are such a beautiful example of a Godly, loving wife. Cale is so blessed to have you.

Cale please know that we pray for you daily, we rejoice in your progress. I can't tell you how many times I walk away from my computer with tears in my eyes thankful that we have a God who is bigger than all of us.

God bless you both. You both are a testament of God's love and power for all of us!

  48. Cale,
I met you, Kathleen, and while you were in Cary. I read your blog almost every day, looking to see the things you are doing and how God is working in your lives. With his help, you are doing AMAZING things!! I cannot believe how well you are walking, singing, tying your shoes, etc. One of my new year's resolutions is to lose weight. The video of you running for a minute totally inspired me. I know you must have been worn out by the end of that minute, because your body is doing things it has not done in a while. My body is going to feel the same way! But, I hope I can stick with it with the determination that you have had!! You inspire me to work hard and give it my best!!!
Also, I don't know if Kathleen has told you about us, but my 1st son's name is Caleb as well. And, my second son's name is Isaiah. I hope you guys will have an Isaiah some day too!!
THANK YOU for allowing the Lord to empower you, and for being a great example for me!

Our family is, has been, and will continue to pray for you in this journey. In a day when young godly men are so few, you are truly a blessing for our boys: First an example of a godly man fighting for his country, and then a testimony for them of a strong warrior showing them that anything can be accomplished if they remain in Christ. We love you so much and are so thankful for you and your wife showing us, our boys, and all we share your story with how faithful our King is when we persevere in Him. Thank you for blessing us with your strength each day. It is clear to us by what He has done in you that there is no god but the One we serve. Through you He has shown His healing power. We look forward to the day that you can come back here and worship with us at KBC. Stay strong and never forget that "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

You don't know me but I found your blog from Ben & Katie's blog. My husband hasn't had a brain injury, but he has a very aggressive case of multiple sclerosis. May the Lord bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon you.

  76. Cale,

I'm so proud of the progress that you've made since feb 10th. not sure if you will ever understand exactly how big of a miracle that is in itself. when the doctor that operated on you that night at pitt memorial told me that the hemotoma on your brian needed to be operated on, or else, it wasnt hard for me to make that decision and sign the release forms for her to do it. I knew just by the way kathleen loved you what needed to be done. youve continued to prove all the doctors and nurses wrong and pitt memorial and wake-med wrong about just how far you'd come in your recovery, and im sure you'll continue to do so. i also want you to know there are far more people that keep up with your progress and are praying for you than what you read here. my fb page is full of updates to your blog, and have several comments or people clicking like on them. you are amazingly strong inside, so keep up the great work and God will answer our prayers.

What an amazing blessing and honor it is to have this place that we can eagerly await new news and pray for current needs! 79. I worked with a guy who had a stroke on the left side of his brain. He wasn't able to speak or move his right side when I met him. His sister told me that his heart had stopped in ICU-he had essentially died. He was able to tell his sister about what he saw on the other side. He told her that an angel took his hand and led him around the hospital room. He saw people who were circled in bright white light. He asked the angel what the light was, the angel replied that the light was the prayers being prayed for those patients. All of this was told to me by the sister-my guy still couldn't speak. After she finished, he turned to me and spoke the only words he ever spoke to me in the two months I worked with him. He told me, "now I know the truth about angels." Just remember you and Cale are always surrounded by rings of white light, supporting you and sustaining you.

I scanned through ALL the comments people have left on this blog post and I can't say that I am surprised. We knew that God is doing a mighty work through you and Kathleen and that people would be blessed and drawn closer to Him through you. I wasn't surprised to see all the encouragement but I was touched. I feel like I am part of a huge family of people, most of whom have never or will never meet, and all of whom are holding hands in prayer and watching in amazement as God walks you through this journey and prooves what an Awsome God He is! You have come SO SO SO far, Cale, and all your hard work is bringing you closer and closer to a full recovery. You are such a fighter. KEEP FIGHTING and keep your head up. Remember that every time it feels too hard and you just want to stop, someone is out there reading this blog and going through a hard time. They see you fight and they see your strength and they are encouraged to keep fighting and moving forward. Through God, you are changing lives, Cale.

    FIGHT! and keep fighting.
    PRAY and keep praying.
TRUST and keep trusting in Him, that He is holding you and Kathleen in the palm of His Hand and is using you to accomplish a mighty work!

  90. Dear Cale,
You and Kathleen don't know me, but you both are among the most beloved of my brothers and sisters in Christ. Through the incredible gift of this blog, Kathleen has given so many of us the great privilege of living out what it means to be Christ's Church. We have the joy of praying for you and participating in that way in the mighty work that God is accomplishing every moment in your recovery. We have the immeasurable blessing of hearing your ongoing testimony of God's faithfulness and then seeing Him grow our our own faith as a result. We have your example ever before us as a man and woman of God who are fighting the good fight in the strength and power of the One who hold you both in His hands. Thank you for the blessing you are to us.

Cale, you are not alone. God has rallied His Church around you in ways you can't even imagine. We, the Body of Christ, scattered all over the world, love you and pray for you constantly. We rejoice at every great victory, both small and large. We increase our prayers with every struggle and difficulty. We eagerly await word each day to see how God continues to unfold His plan in His perfect timing as He works in your life. We are on the sidelines, cheering you on as you persevere....always working so hard. And along with you, we praise our Mighty God Who brings beauty from ashes, and will be faithful to complete the good work He began in you!

I pray God's richest blessings for you, my brother in Christ.

  92. Cale,

Every time I read this blog I get choked up over how good the Lord is. Your family has been such a blessing to watch and such an encouragement to me in my own personal walk with God. The Bible says that God uses all things for the good to His glory and that is certainly what He has done!!! I can't imagine the innumerable amount of people who have been encouraged by your journey or even brought closer to the Lord because of your journey. I love reading this blog and I am always praying for you and your continued healing. Kathleen - I look up to you so much, what an incredible example of a godly wife you are. I'm a facebook friend of Nicole... so I don't really know you, but I feel like I know you. Love you guys and am continuing to pray for you two.
    Love, Tori (Fayetteville, NC)

Hello Cale! My name is Kathy and I met Kathleen when you were in the hospital in Cary, NC. I have been praying for you and following your progress since that time. It has been amazing to see all the things you have been able to do since you arrived in California! I pray that you recover quickly from the sinus surgery and that you feel God's mighty presence with you as you continue to work so hard to get better. Love to you and Kathleen!

  94. Cale Darling, man of God,

God has used you to show his glory to thousands of people; not only your friends and those who read the blog, but those who work or stay in hospitals, those who know your friends, and others who hear in many places have seen the daily miracles God has done in your life.

I have been praying for more than 6 months that when your recovery might slow, God would use this surgery not to your harm, but to again increase the rate of your healing. God can do anything.

You are blessed with Kathleen, a woman of great faith and love!

Don't be afraid. Sleep in faith and trust during the surgery.

    Kathleen H.

  95. Cale,
We just want to join in and remind you how much we love you and are praying for you. This past year has been long and hard, but God has given you strength and you have persevered. Keep it up! Romans 5: 3 says “We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” We have seen both you and Kathleen rejoice in your sufferings, and God has been building character in both of you and giving you soooo much HOPE for the future!! I know you don’t remember this Cale, but there was a time that we didn’t know if you would ever wake up, or ever talk again, or eat again, or walk. So we prayed, and trusted God with you in His hands. And now look at you!! You’re doing all those things and far more! Wow!!!

We are continuing to pray for your surgery on Friday. Don’t be scared. God’s brought you through way worse this year.  It’ll be over before you know it and those therapists will be back making you get out of bed and walk! Thanks for continuing to allow God to use you for his glory even in these tough times. And thanks for continuing to be a wonderful, caring, loving husband to Kathleen.  Love you both, Rachel and Mike.

  96. Hey Cale this is Clay Thomas. Though we have only hung out a few times, I am glad to call you a friend. My wife Amanda and I enjoyed eating with you at Wing Stop and at Dennys while you were in the Tri-Cities visiting in October (I think) of 2009. We do not live in Kennewick anymore. We moved to Alabama and I am the student pastor at a great church in Madison, AL. Also I remember us chatting on Facebook a lot while you were in Afghanistan. You worked the night shift so you would often chat with me when you were bored at 3 in the morning..lol We are praying for you and we are so proud of you for how hard you are working. God has great plans for you and we can't wait to see what great things God is going to do in the future for you and Kathleen. We hope to come visit you guys soon once we can save up some money!

I've always admired the way you find the joy in life no matter what the situation. You used to keep me smiling at youth group with your crazy antics.Memories from youth group, random hang out times, mission trips and youth camp flood my mind when I think about you.You inspire me!

Over this last year your endurance and spirit of perseverance has been a ray of light in my life. When I think of struggles that I have in my life, I think about the way that God continues to bring you through recovery; and through that I have hope.

O God, You are more awesome than Your holy places. The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to His people.Blessed be God!

Dear Cale, we share relatives. Your brother is my grandson-in-law, married to Nicole. We have kept track of your progress, and it has been nothing short of miraculous. We will still pray for you, even though you can pray for yourself now, but the prayers of many God hears. We will pray for your comprehension and understanding, and that your entire brain will be whole and in working order SOON!
