an afternoon with geese

I asked Cale to pray last night because every time I opened my mouth to talk, I started coughing. He began with this, “Dear God, please make Kathleen stop coughing. She is coughing lots. Please stop it. Yeah.” Haha…he cracks me up!

After getting a few things done this morning, a super wonderful couple came to visit. I had never met them before, but they have been such a blessing since they started reading the blog and walking this journey with me. I have received emails from Cheryl that have caused the corners of my mouth to rise. She has been so sweet. I was also told that they both helped a lot on this house (this house that we are SO blessed to be living in!!). It was a precious gift to be able to meet them and spend some time talking. My nephew was here to help me out, so he played cards with Cale while we talked. Cale still isn’t a fan of lots of talking. He will tolerate a short time, but that’s about it.

I’m kicking myself for not getting a picture with them!

We said good byes and then Mark, Cale, and I were off to the park. There’s an area at a park nearby that has an area to feed geese. We used to go all the time when we were dating, and I’ve been itching to be able to go again! With a bag of older bread, we took the dogs and the three of us met Andy and his daughter at the pond. Mark walked the dogs and kept them away so they wouldn’t go crazy. We had a lot of fun and Cale at one point started talking with these overly excited birds. They make this funny sound, and he proved that he could make it right back at them! ;)

I was going to attempt getting on his back...but it didn't work too well! Here's my cheat with the table... ;)

This dog is just way too cute!

It has been so nice outside the last two days. Yesterday, the sun was out and while Cale was taking a nap, I found myself relaxing outside in the sun! It was warmer today, but the sun had a hard time finding its way through the clouds. It was great for us though!

For those of you that don't know, last April, we made a prayer chain to hang around Cale's hospital room. I had the thought that when he became aware enough, it would give him something to look at and see with his eyes how many people are praying for him. It was also an extra blessing for me, not only to see the prayer chain, but also all the sweet emails that came along with them! While we were in Palo Alto, I had run out of construction paper and ended up not being able to put a lot up, but if you haven't sent an email and would like to be on the prayer chain, email prayingforcale@yahoo.com or if you just want to send an email to let him know you're praying! Include your name along with city and state.

So...anyways, the prayer chain is back up! It's in the work out room, which right now is his least favorite room. He doesn't want to do the elliptical because he says that its for girls...I put up a few more pictures in there that had been in his hospital room. Two of them were Red Wings, so that gave him a smile! :)

Cale has been doing good with getting himself dressed lately. He still gets a little mixed up some days, like, the other day he yelled out that he needed help. When I walked in the room to see what he needed, he had been trying to put his shirt on as pants. It’s those moments that I have to make sure that no matter how funny it is, I can’t bust out laughing because he is truly confused and that would crush him…but we do have many occasions that are completely appropriate for us to laugh hysterically together!

It's so awesome to see the little changes. Yes, they're not as often as they had been, but it’s still happening. For this, I am incredibly thankful to the Lord! His brain is still healing every day...thank you Jesus!

“God is not a belief to which you give your assent. God becomes a reality whom you know intimately, meet every day, one whose strength becomes your strength, whose love, your love. Live this life of the presence of God long enough and when someone asks you, “Do you believe there is a God?” you may find yourself answering, “No, I do not believe there is a God. I know there is a God.”
